Some students have still not handed in poetry anthologies or math multiplication and division homework, both of which were due on Friday. We are swimming again tomorrow and Thursday. Make sure students have a bathing suit, towel, and plastic bag each day that we are swimming. Our basic facts quiz has been moved to Thursday. We have library on Thursday. November's school spirit day is on the 20th and is "reverse day" - teachers can dress as students and students can dress as teachers. Theatre field trip forms and payment are due on Friday, November 22.
Morning recap:
This morning after music, we spent some time writing our learning goals for this year. Each year, students develop goals in language arts, math, and a third subject area (usually health/wellness, but sometimes music or physical education). This year students were asked to develop goals that align with our school development plan, so the areas of focus are reading comprehension, numeracy, and pro-social behaviour (getting along with others by developing self-regulation and conflict resolution skills). Students selected goals and strategies and began typing them into their Iris learning plans today. When they are finished, you can have students log onto Iris at home so you can see their goals, and you will also see them as they guide our discussion at student involved learning conferences on November 21 and 22. Once we put the laptops away, we headed down to the bus for our first day of swimming lessons. We were quite loud but otherwise did a great job representing BHS and being respectful at the pool. When we got back to school, we spent the few minutes before lunch finishing up planning our goals, doing the zones of regulation work we started on Friday in health or reading.
