Monday, September 16

Messages and Reminders:
A few class contracts still need to be returned! We have library on Thursday so make sure books are returned if you want a new one. Meet the teacher is on Thursday evening. There will be two 45 minute sessions, one from 6:00 - 6:45 and one from 6:45 - 7:30. You can attend either one. Parent council pizza will be available that evening as well. There is no school for students on Friday.

Morning recap:
This morning when we got back from ignite, we did quiet reading. In language arts, we began our poetry unit. Our first assignment is to create a fingerprint poem. Each of our fingerprints are unique and each of our poems will be too. We can write anything we want about ourselves and our good copy will be written on the lines of a fingerprint. We will hopefully get these done for you to see at meet the teacher on Thursday.

During the first part of math, we reviewed decimals by watching a couple quick videos and playing a class game. We looked at concepts including decimal place value and representing decimals using base ten blocks. After taking a break to go out for gym, we looked at how large numbers are represented as decimals in the media (for example, 3 400 000 being written as 3.4 million or 3.4M) and did a bit more decimal review before starting a booklet we will be working on all week.

Upcoming important dates:
Thursday, September 19 - meet the teacher 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Friday, September 27 - pillars of care assembly 8:30am
Friday, September 27 - Terry Fox run
Monday, September 30 - orange shirt day
